China No. 8 billiard cue It is best to lay the cue flat inside a cue case. Most players have already chosen a high-quality cue case for their beloved eight-ball cue—made from sturdy materials and boasting a luxurious appearance. The padded lining provides excellent protection, and when the cue is laid flat in the case, it can comfortably accommodate about three-quarters of the cue’s joint, minimizing the risk of bending at the joint or along the entire shaft. If a cue case is not available, hanging the cue on a coat hanger can also offer some degree of protection. Experts recommend that laying the eight-ball cue flat in a case is the optimal way to store it.
How to Store in a Humid Climate
If the climate is relatively humid, wipe the cue frequently with a dry, pure-cotton towel. After purchasing a new No. 8 billiard cue, you’ll need to oil it yourself; most retailers provide oil as a complimentary gift. If no oil is included, there’s no need to buy any. However, if the cue hasn’t been oiled during processing or is of a very low grade, oiling isn’t necessary. When oiling, use only 2–5 drops based on the actual condition—don’t overdo it, as the cue won’t absorb much. Oil the cue once a week; after 2–3 applications, you can stop. If you notice a sticky or rough feel, reapply oil.
Wipe the club clean after each use.
When using an eight-ball cue, it is crucial to apply “CHALK” evenly over the entire surface of the cue tip to protect the skin. If the cue tip is left bare, it can easily develop mold in damp, enclosed environments. During play, be sure to frequently rub the CHALK into the cue tip to prevent skin damage caused by missed shots or improper force. After each session, it is equally important to reapply CHALK evenly to the cue tip to safeguard the skin; leaving the tip exposed can lead to mold growth in humid, confined conditions. Regularly rubbing the CHALK into the cue tip will also help protect your skin from injury due to poor technique or excessive force.
“To do a good job, one must first sharpen one’s tools.” In the game of billiards, the cue plays a crucial role. As the saying goes, by skillfully leveraging external aids, one can achieve twice the results with half the effort. However, if the cue is not regularly oiled during use, it is prone to cracking and splitting. Therefore, regular maintenance is essential.
How should one properly oil a No. 8 billiard cue?
Applying oil to the club’s surface effectively protects it, nourishes the wood, and prevents the club from warping or cracking.
During use, first wipe the club clean with a dry cotton cloth, then apply two to three drops of oil to the areas that require lubrication, and finally wipe them clean again with a clean cotton cloth.
However, oiling a No. 8 billiard cue is not as simple as just slapping some oil on and calling it done. If you need to oil the cue tip, it should be done with white wax tree oil, not maple oil. And you should avoid oiling the leather tip altogether, as this can render it unusable. Of course, in most cases, you can simply wipe the leather tip with a cotton cloth that has been rubbed with sandalwood oil; this way, you can rely on the residual oil in the cloth rather than applying additional cue oil.
After applying the rod oil, place the rod in a well-ventilated area. After five to ten minutes, use a dry cotton cloth to wipe off the white wax on the bamboo section of the rod, while allowing the sandalwood section to continue drying.

It is best to lay an eight-ball cue straight and flat inside its case. Most players have already chosen a cue case for their prized eight-ball cue—made from sturdy materials and boasting a luxurious appearance. The padded lining provides excellent protection, and when the cue is laid horizontally in the case, it can accommodate about three-quarters of the cue’s joint, minimizing the risk of bending at the joint or along the entire shaft.

Get to Know What a Chinese 8-Ball Cue Is in One Minute
A cue is a wooden striking tool used in billiards. It tapers from a thin tip to a thicker butt and comes in various lengths. Generally, it should be no shorter than 91 cm. Of course, when using a cue, keep in mind that if it’s too long, it will be difficult to handle and may compromise your aim and stroke. Therefore, choose a cue that suits you.

How to Maintain a Chinese No. 8 Billiard Cue
When not in use, store your eight-ball cue in a cue case—preferably a hard-case—and avoid leaning it against a corner or placing it in excessively hot environments, such as next to a refrigerator or in direct sunlight. Never leave your eight-ball cue in a car for extended periods, nor in dark, damp locations. High temperature and high humidity can alter the cue’s flex and performance.
