Chinese-style billiard cue It is a cue used for striking the ball, made of wood. The cue tapers from front to back and can vary in length; generally, it should not be shorter than 91 cm. Of course, when you use it, you should bear in mind that if the cue is too long, it will be difficult to handle and may compromise your aiming and stroke—so choose a cue that suits you. The shaft is round, tapering from front to back and straight, with a length typically ranging from 1.3 m to 1.5 m; the tip (the narrower end) has a diameter of about 9 to 12 mm. In addition, you should know that the quality of the cue’s leather tip directly affects the quality of your shot. The tip is made of leather, which is elastic, allowing you to control the impact force during the stroke while also preventing slippage. To further reduce slippage, after three or four strokes, apply chalk powder to the tip. The tip should be regularly trimmed and polished to maintain optimal condition. The cue head is usually made of hard metal or plastic, with the leather tip glued onto it for protection.
The cue is an essential tool for every billiards player and plays a particularly important role in competition. It’s advisable to choose a cue that suits you personally. Unfortunately, many players make several common mistakes when selecting their cue. For instance, some prioritize brand loyalty above all else, while others base their decision on which professional player uses a particular cue or on the material it’s made from. Such considerations are largely irrelevant; the true measure of a good cue is whether it fits your style and playing needs. Another crucial point is that beginners and advanced players should use different types of cues. Beginners benefit most from a cue with lower stiffness—more flexibility—and a heavier weight, as this type of cue helps them develop more standardized stroke mechanics and improve their fundamental accuracy during practice. A stiffer cue, by contrast, resists deformation upon impact, reducing unwanted spin and thereby enhancing both accuracy and concentration. Once a player has established a solid foundation and begins advancing to higher levels, however, a stiffer cue may no longer be the best choice.

Daily Maintenance Tips for Chinese Eight-Ball Pool Cues
It is best to lay an eight-ball cue straight and flat inside its case. Most players have already chosen a cue case for their prized eight-ball cue—made from sturdy materials and boasting a luxurious appearance. The padded lining provides excellent protection, and when the cue is laid horizontally in the case, it can accommodate about three-quarters of the cue’s joint, minimizing the risk of bending at the joint or along the entire shaft.

Get to Know What a Chinese 8-Ball Cue Is in One Minute
A cue is a wooden striking tool used in billiards. It tapers from a thin tip to a thicker butt and comes in various lengths. Generally, it should be no shorter than 91 cm. Of course, when using a cue, keep in mind that if it’s too long, it will be difficult to handle and may compromise your aim and stroke. Therefore, choose a cue that suits you.

How to Maintain a Chinese No. 8 Billiard Cue
When not in use, store your eight-ball cue in a cue case—preferably a hard-case—and avoid leaning it against a corner or placing it in excessively hot environments, such as next to a refrigerator or in direct sunlight. Never leave your eight-ball cue in a car for extended periods, nor in dark, damp locations. High temperature and high humidity can alter the cue’s flex and performance.
